However, the problem caused by the lack of maintenance of the battery is quite high in the total failure proportion of ups. Therefore, routine maintenance of UPS battery will greatly extend the battery life of ups and reduce the failure rate. This article will introduce the maintenance method of UPS battery.
Maintain appropriate ambient temperature
Generally speaking, the factor that affects the battery life is the ambient temperature. The optimum ambient temperature required by the general battery manufacturer is between 20-25 ℃. Although the temperature increases the discharge capacity of the battery, the cost is that the battery life is greatly shortened. According to the test, once the ambient temperature exceeds 25 ℃, the life of the battery will be shortened by half once the temperature rises by 10 ℃. At present, the battery used by UPS is generally maintenance free sealed lead-acid battery, and the design life is generally 5 years, which can be achieved under the environment required by the battery manufacturer. If the environmental requirements are not met, the life span of the system varies greatly. In addition, the increase of environmental temperature will lead to the increase of chemical activity inside the battery, which will generate a large amount of heat energy, and in turn, it will promote the ambient temperature rise. This vicious cycle will accelerate the shortening of battery life.
Regular charging discharge
The floating charge voltage and discharge voltage in UPS power supply have been adjusted to the rated value at the factory. The discharge current is increased with the increase of load. The load should be adjusted reasonably in use, such as controlling the number of electronic equipment such as microcomputer. Generally, the load should not exceed 60% of the rated load of ups. In this range, the discharge current of the battery will not be over discharged.
UPS is connected with the municipal power for a long time. In the service environment with high power supply quality and few power outage, the battery will be in floating charging state for a long time, and the activity of chemical energy and electric energy conversion of battery will be reduced in a long time, and the service life will be shortened by accelerating aging. Therefore, it is generally necessary to discharge completely every 2-3 months. The discharge time can be determined according to the capacity and load of the battery. After one full load discharge, charge for more than 8 hours as required.
Using communication functions
At present, most large and medium ups have the operational performance of communication with microcomputer and program control. The corresponding software is installed on the microcomputer, and the ups can be connected through serial / parallel port. The program can be run to communicate with ups by using the microcomputer. Generally, it has the functions of information query, parameter setting, timing setting, automatic shutdown and alarm. Through information inquiry, information such as mains input voltage, UPS output voltage, load utilization rate, battery capacity utilization rate, in-machine temperature and power frequency can be obtained; through parameter setting, basic characteristics of UPS, battery maintenance time and battery use alarm can be set. Through these intelligent operation, it is convenient to use and manage UPS power supply and its battery.
Replace the waste / broken battery in time
At present, the number of batteries equipped with large and medium UPS power supply ranges from 3 to 80, even more. These individual batteries are connected by circuit to form battery banks to meet the needs of UPS DC power supply. In the continuous operation of UPS, due to the difference of performance and quality, it is inevitable that the performance of individual batteries will be reduced and the storage capacity can not meet the requirements. When one / some of the batteries in the battery pack are damaged, maintenance personnel shall check and test each battery to eliminate the damaged battery. When replacing new batteries, we should strive to buy the same type of batteries as the manufacturers. It is forbidden to mix acid proof batteries with sealed batteries and different specifications of batteries.
